My projects

Over the years, I've acquired many skills and interests involving different tones and formats of writing. I hope to continue this in the future. Below are a few of my projects. Click the pictures to see my finished projects.

No Tragedy

No Tragedy was a performance project I did about my path of discovering my gender identity, and how I find it now. It also touches on family acceptance, and transphobia in the media and communities. It was performed in March, and sadly wasn't recorded, however, the picture links to the monologue script that I wrote and performed.

The Pawnbroker's

My first piece of historical fiction was The Pawnbroker's, set in 1947 in Leicester. It was inspired by the live scene in the Newarke Museum in Leicester, and outlines the struggle of seven year old Winston, who's living through an economic crash after both world wars, and due to his age, doesn't understand why the world seems like such a dreary place. I loved tapping into a different time period, researching what did and didn't exist in society that time, as well as writing from an unreliable narrator's perspective.

Should Writers Work for Free?

Should Writers Work for free is my first article, illustrating the dilemma of many writers. It discusses public opinion, as well as the opinion of sucessful writers, in when it's okay for a writer to work for free, and when it's not. It has a semi-formal tone, and shows multiple sides and opinions, perfect for a magazine or blog post.

Why Choirs are Important.

For this project, I took an unscripted video of someone addressing a point, and not only transcribed it, but formatted it into an article, selected tone and word choices to make it sound more appealing to its intended audience, and corrected any grammar mistakes. This is what I'm starting to do on Fiverr, as I feel that many people have things they want in essay form, but struggle to get their words onto paper, and I believe I can help with this.

The pictures to the right link to the article and the original video the article stemmed from.

Technical writing

Although my main field is fictional writing, I believe I can bring a lot to a non-fictional writing job as well. For this example, I took a set of instructions for maintaining an autoclave machine that were written unclearly (likely due to a translation issue) and modified them to sound more fluent and easier to follow. Small changes like changing the voice from active to passive give it a less accusatory tone and make it easier to read and follow. I believe that I could turn any clumsily phrased writing into something that flows and is easy to receive for a native English speaker. I can do this for any field.

06

Marketing

I can use my writing to reach out to other businesses with opportunities or offers that can expand both of our businesses. Tones I can write in include formal, semi formal or informal, and I can adjust to appeal to any audience I'm given. I can research into companies and show my research through a bibliography if requested. Communication with with the client (or potential client) can be through through email or phone or zoom calls. The example is a work task I was given from a potential job offer, asking me to reach out to the head of Asana about what the company MVF can do for them.

Script writing

I can operate Celtx.com to write things in an accurate script format if desired, and then download these into PDF format. This can be for monologues or dialogues, and can be used in projects for anything from theatre, advertising or the radio. To the left is a monologue that is designed for TV that I wrote as a university assignment.
